All Ireland 1887 hurling final re-enactment

The first hurling All-Ireland was the 1887 final and was between Thurles and Meelick from County Galway. This match will be re-enacted as part of Thurles SportsFest. The re-enactment will include a Parade through the town including relatives of those who played in the first All-Ireland and those playing in the under-12 hurling tournament.

The parade will be led by the Sean Treacy Pipe band, Moycarkey Borris, The Thurles Silver Band will play in Liberty Square, the Durrow High Nelly Bike Group will show how most people travelled to the matches and the Horse and Carriages will be a showpiece also. A short historical drama piece will be presented at Sarsfields Centre prior to match

Where: Starting at St. Patrick’s College with parade through Liberty Square to Sarsfield’s Clubhouse and match on Sarsfield’s Pitch.
